Yay I love L&D!

On the floor with patients, seriously this is where I belong!  My pt last night had the best sense of humor too which makes it even more fun if that is even possible!  I’m getting the hang of the paper work as it is all paper charting which is a huge change.
The only down part is that I received my schedule and it is not pretty.  Apparently working every other weekend means every weekend.  I am hopefully we can get it worked out and if we can’t I will still enjoy it here.

Orientation- a New Place With All New Faces

I don’t really know what I expected today to be like.  I didn’t really expect it to be spent taking computer tests and competencies but that is pretty much what it was, that and fingerprinting and my photo being taken twice.  I did spend the last two hrs getting to know the manager, midwives and other staff on the unit as well as a tour of the rooms and unit.  With time even to help with a triage. Eight hrs later with no lunch or potty breaks I was glad to see the clock turn to 5:00pm.

Two night shifts of orientation this week, I think I’m going to like it here.

Cross Roads Community Church

We had done a little research before leaving Salem to see what churches would be available here in Farmington and had narrowed it down to two that looked and sounded good.  We decided that whichever one was closest to our apartment would be the one we would go with.  With only three months here we did not want to be church hopping that wouldn’t give the kids any time to make friends.
Bible study for all ages started at 0900, with church service to follow.  Crystal at the guest services counter was very nice and showed us where the kids classes were and gave us a neat little gift pack with two free coffee coupons and a mug in it.  Bible study was good although it wasn’t until mid bible study when Eve could not contain her volume that I discovered that the reason there was no one in the three to four class was because 0-4 was all in the nursery during Bible study.  With her happily playing in “her class” I was able to catch the last bit of the Bible study class.  The children’s pastor and youth pastor both made a point of saying hi, welcome, and introducing themselves.  Everyone was very friendly and shaking our hands.  Now I just hope their names stick in my head until next week.  As we were leaving Chad was exclaiming how familiar the pastor looked when suddenly he realized where he had seen him before.  He was the first pastoral candidate we invited when we were looking for a new pastor a while back at Salem First Church of the Nazarene. How crazy is that to end up at his church.
After church I had a few more competencies to finish up…there is a lot of information in this whole baby friendly healthcare initiative.  As we were waiting for those to print we drive around town and discovered 4 Sonics, a Fuddruckers, Natural grocers, and the community pool that looks similar to the crock center but a little older.
Now for getting mentally prepared for tomorrow.  Let the games (first impressions and everything else that happens on your first week of a new job) begin.

In Our New Place

Well we now have a street address for those requesting our address but no way to get mail.  It will be another few days before we can get in and get a P.O. Box set up.  This is our new town house

20140426-212746.jpg
It may not look like much but the kids think it is he best apartment in the whole world because it has stairs and a “slide” which is really just a flatter wider hand rail.  It is comfortable and less snug than we had imagined so we are all very glad about that.  We were quick to start a load of laundry which if you had smelled our travel clothes you would have all agreed was a priority, and that led to a very exciting discovery that the drain tube was not hooked up right.  We quickly gathered up every towel in the place to clean up our mini flood.

20140426-213239.jpg
And a second priority load.  The kids had a fun time unpacking their vacuum bags and filling the dresser.  But have been a little less excited about the 9+ hrs I have spent doing competencies so far today (only 10 left).  They watched a movie upstairs with daddy so I wouldn’t be distracted so easily.

We have picked a church out that is a little over a mile away and are excited to possibly meet some new people tomorrow.

Day 5…Made it to Farmington

Man, if only we had another week in Moab!  There was so much to do there.  With time to only do one we decided on Arches National Park.  Thanks for the gift of an America the Beautiful national park pass from the Silverton FBC it came in so handy today.
After all morning and most of the afternoon in the park we decided we had better get some lunch (4:00pm) and head towards Farmington which was another three hrs down the road.  We felt like we had visited Silver Creek Falls with only enough time to hike to the North Falls, it was just the tip of the iceberg and we are definitely going to have to go back.  Our final leg took us into Colorado and down just east of Four Corners Monument which we hope to go back and see on Sunday afternoon.  I got the first glimpse of where I will be working and then the city of Farmington.

Day Four

We started out the day with plans to hit up Craters of the Moon National Park, but due to the cold wind and it being in the opposite direction and all of us feeling quite exhausted from several late nights in a row, we turned south with plans to catch it later.  Besides the cold wind it was a rather beautiful day.  We enjoyed the mountains, Utah’s beautiful Capitol building,  and other the gorgeous rock formations.  We retired early for the day in Moab UT which brings us almost three hrs from our first assignment and right next to Arches National Park.

Day Three

With only a three hour drive and visit to the Capitol building on the agenda we took advantage of the down time to allow for a slow start to the morning.  After several very late nights in a row the kids were ready for a recovery day. We were also able to take advantage of the scenery in the middle with out feeling rushed.  We stopped in Twin Falls Idaho at the scenic overlook and spent some time hiking around Shoshone falls. And spent the evening with friends. We should make it to Salt Lake City tomorrow.

Day Two

I grew up in Idaho and Chad and I both attended NNU so driving through town with out seeing our loved ones was out of the question; especially since Chad had been back only one time since Graduation 10 years ago.  As we ran through the list of people we would like to see and who would be available in the middle of the day on a week day for unannounced visitors.  I got to see almost all of my Aunts and Uncles (we missed Aunt Peggy we will catch her on the next swing through Nampa).  And we also saw a handful of friends.  By the end of the day we made it a whopping 26 miles from our previous nights destination, and had a very fun day.

Day One

The day we have been waiting for for two years is finally here!  We chilled on Easter taking a day of rest so we had a few last min.  Things to pack and get the car loaded.  We pulled out of our driveway just before 11:00am which was better than we expected and only forgot the water bottles as far as we know (they made it as far as the garage).  They are totally replaceable.  We decided to diverge from our normal route across Oregon and turned toward the east and the Bend area.  We made a longer day of day one because the kids have been to Idaho a few times and we want to save our slower days for when we are covering new territory.  We pulled in to our friends house in Emmett around 9:30pm.

We Are Off

Yesterday we finally took off for our first assignment.  Heading down to Farmington new Mexico.  We made it all the way to Emmett ID.  Got to see some beautiful views and observe the changing scenery.  Hope to have a lot more fun as we continue our travels.
